Self-Archiving Policy (The Linnean & PuLSe)

This policy pertains to papers and articles written for The Linnean and Pulse, not our academic journals published through Oxford University Press.

The aim of this policy is to set out the ways in which authors can share work written for and/or published in the Linnean Society’s internal publications.

Author’s Version: Pre-Acceptance, or Author’s Original Version (AOV)

The AOV is the author’s first submitted version of an article, pre-review, pre-edit and pre-publication. This is the author’s layout, not the Society’s.

  • The AOV of an article may be included on the author’s personal, non-commercial website. This version may also be shared with colleagues and held by the author’s institutional repository, or non-commercial repository used by the author for personal archiving purposes.
  • If approved for publication, the Society asks that the author include the acknowledgement text shown below at the start of their AOV. It must also be clearly noted that the AOV should not be cited.
  • After publication, the Linnean Society asks that the author include the details of publication wherever they have posted their AOV. With regard to The Linnean, the author can link to the version on the Linnean Society’s website once the one month embargo period (from physical publication) has lifted (www.linnean.org/thelinnean).

Acknowledgement wording:

This is a pre-review, pre-copy-edited version of an article that has been submitted to The Linnean Society of London for publication in [title of publication].

Author’s Version: Post-Acceptance or Accepted Manuscript (AM)

The AM has been reviewed, with modifications made, and approved for publication, but may not yet be fully copy-edited.

  • The AM version of an article may be included on the author’s personal, non-commercial website. This version may also be shared with colleagues and held by the author’s institution in a repository, or non-commercial repository used by the author for personal archiving purposes.
  • The Society asks that the author include the acknowledgement text shown below at the start of their AM. It must also be clearly noted that the AM should not be cited.
  • After publication, the Linnean Society asks that the author include the details of publication wherever they have posted their AM. With regard to The Linnean, the author can link to the version on the Linnean Society’s website once the one month embargo period (from physical publication) has lifted (www.linnean.org/thelinnean).

Acknowledgement wording:

This is a pre-copy-edited version of an article that has been accepted by The Linnean Society of London for publication in [title of publication and vol/issue if known]. For all citations, please use the published version (Version of Record) and direct all copyright requests to The Linnean Society of London.

Version of Record (VOR)

This is the final copy-edited, typeset and designed version of the author’s paper or article, and may be stored in the author’s institutional or personal, non-commercial archival repository. For all other uses, written agreement from the publication’s Editor is required.
