Honorary Fellows

The purpose of Honorary Fellowship is to thank individuals for their contributions to the work of the Linnean Society and its mission.

The goal for Honorary Fellowship is to create a diverse community of cross-disciplinary individuals deeply committed to the Society. Honorary Fellowship should be enjoyable and fulfilling and strengthen the connection with the Society. While there are no formal obligations on Honorary Fellows, it is expected that they will continue to be active Fellows and advocates for the Society and its mission.

Eligibility

Proposals should state clearly why someone is being proposed and their contribution. Proposals should demonstrate a sustained contribution to the Society over the medium- to long-term. Contributions must be significant and could span one or more of the following:

  • Engagement with our activities, contributions to our programmes or volunteering
  • Fellowship recruitment and promoting awareness of the Society
  • Fundraising through personal donations or supporting fundraising efforts
  • Contribution towards good governance, as a Trustee or in a support role
  • Longstanding or outstanding contribution to the Society as a staff member

Application Process

  • The Fellowship may propose individuals to Council they feel meet the eligibility criteria for Honorary Fellowship.
  • Proposals should be made by sending a completed Honorary Fellowship Nomination Form to the Head of Membership & Development at membership@linnean.org or by post.
  • Forms will be reviewed by the Head of Membership & Development, the CEO, the Chair of the Fellowship Committee and the President. Those meeting the criteria will be shared for Council’s consideration. Council will then decide which nominee(s) will be put forward for election by the Fellowship at the Anniversary Meeting (BL 6.3).
  • Proposals from the Fellowship require the support of six or more Fellows.
  • The annual deadline for submitting a proposal is 23 February.
