Linnaean Tercentenary and Events 2007

The 300th anniversary of the birth of Linnaeus was commemorated internationally in 2007. The Linnean Society of London orgnised a wide range of activities to celebrate Linnaeus’ legacy by:

  • focusing on his ideas
  • highlighting the need to devote more resources to systematics and taxonomy
  • improving international access to its unique collections and facilities

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance and significance of his binomial system in the naming of biological organisms.

The Tercentenary year was launched on 7th December 2006.
