The winner of our 2024 The John Spedan Lewis Emerging Leader Award, Kabir Kaul, has been recognised in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List.

Kabir said: “I remain incredibly grateful for the Society’s kindness and encouragement, and the wisdom of all the Fellows I've had the privilege to meet so far. Not only was I honoured to receive the John Spedan Lewis award in 2024, but since becoming a Fellow that year my understanding of nature has been significantly enriched by Fellows working in all natural history disciplines.”

Linnean Society CEO Gail Cardew said: “We’re very happy for Kabir, who has been a valued member of our Fellowship over the last few years. Kabir has contributed so much to the field of natural history, beginning with his blog and then creating an interactive map of London wildlife at the age of just 13. We look forward to working with him more as he continues his career.”

Kabir Kaul is a conservationist who aims to help people connect with the nature around them and learn about conservation. For his work, Kabir has received a Points of Light award from the Prime Minister. In 2020 he became a volunteer Ranger with London National Park City, and as an Ambassador for the Cameron Bespolka Trust, Kabir launched a campaign for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022—over 100 schools across London received free nestboxes. Kabir served on the RSPB Youth Council between 2019 and 2025. He is now studying Geography at Birmingham University.
