The Council, staff and Fellowship of the Linnean Society are deeply saddened by the passing of Prof Dame Georgina Mace, whose contributions to the Society both as a Fellow and as a member of Council were characterised by their integrity, insightfulness and inspiration.

She was a hugely influential and innovative conservation biologist and did more than anyone to link science and policy to address today’s environmental challenges; she truly changed the way in which we think about our relationship with nature. Her kindness and generosity with her time and advice will be much missed, we have truly lost a great friend.
