Tours (Draft)

The Linnean Society is a peaceful hub of natural history in the middle of bustling Piccadilly. Our tours explore the treasures inside our building and journey through our historic meeting spaces to our library and collections. These tours are open to any group with an interest in natural history and the history of science: academics, researchers, students, scientific illustrators, school-groups, families, and the general public.

All tours are approximately 1.5 hours.

Booking is subject to staff availability between Monday and Friday, 10:00 - 17:00 (excluding Bank Holidays and the period between Christmas and New Year). Please be sure to contact us as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment.
Please note that any groups over 12 will be separated into two groups on the day of your visit.

We are pleased to be able to subsidise the fees for certain groups - please read about this below the table.

Covid update: We are pleased to resume tours of our building, albeit in a slightly amended form to protect our staff and visitors. We are delighted to be reopening the Collections Store, which holds the collections of Carl Linnaeus, to up to 12 visitors at a time; however, as it is a confined and under-ventilated space, all visitors should wear a mask (unless exempt) while in the Collections Store.

Subsidised fees

The Linnean Society can subsidise the fee of a tour for specific groups where payment would be a barrier to access, and also for visiting dignitaries and donors. An exclusive, complimentary collections tour is also a benefit of AdoptLINN support above a certain threshold (£400).

You can read more about our subsidisation criteria in this document. In the registration form, please tick ‘Eligible for Subsidisation’ and we will contact you to fill out a separate form in due course.
