Linnaeus' New Portrait

The Society will be open from 10am until 4pm for people of all ages to come and get involved in a variety of drawing activities as part of the 2018 Big Draw Festival. However, our main event is specifically for 8-11 year olds...

Come and make history by drawing a new portrait for the Linnean Society! The Linnean Society has an exciting opportunity for children aged 8-11 to create a 21st Century portrait of Carl Linnaeus to be hung in our historic Meeting Room while the original goes away for conservation works.

Carl Linnaeus was a world-famous biologist, a pioneer of classification, who came up with the naming system for all living things.

This Competition is completely unique and allows the winner to become a part of our history and showcase their artwork in a world-famous venue - it was at a Meeting of the Linnean Society that Darwin and Wallace's 'Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection' was presented for the first time!

Come and visit the Society on Wednesday 24th October and lets make a fantastic new portrait!
