Making Space for Nature

Making Space for Nature: Rivers and Waterways

Speaker: Professor Sir John Lawton

Ure Redmire

Sir John will discuss his 2010 report Making Space for Nature, the Government’s response in the Natural Environment White Paper (2011), particularly the decision to establish 12 Nature Improvement Areas (NIAs) throughout England, and subsequent developments. Rivers, waterways and other water-bodies feature strongly in a number of the NIAs, and are a crucial part of our protected area network more generally. The lecture will consider their present and future roles in making space for nature, and how this complements and enhances the vital part they play in wider society.

This meeting is free and open to all; registration is not necessary.
