Launch Event: Linnean Future
Join us for the inauguration of Linnean Future, our new committee set up to tackle the ongoing planetary emergency
SPECIAL MEETING 18.30–19:40 WEDS, 3 MARCH 2021
Our planet is in crisis and we are responding.
The Linnean Society has formed a new committee 'Linnean Future: The Planetary Emergency Response Committee of the Linnean Society', which was borne out of a resolution that was adopted at the 2020 AGM, named by our Fellows and launched on 3 March 2021.
During this meeting, we will discuss what compelled us to initiate actions that will help us practise what we preach, share our expertise and inspire others to value and protect the natural world.
Over this hour-long event, Stephanie Holt (NHM, London), Chair of the Committee, will outline what the Committee has achieved so far and our future work, Professor Andy Purvis (NHM, London), a Committee member, will explain the science behind the planetary emergency, and Dr Ruth Waters, Senior Analyst, Dasgupta Review of the Economics of Biodiversity at HM Treasury will present a briefing on the recent report.
We will also be talking about how you, our honourable Fellows, Members and any citizen of the world, can join us in our efforts in presenting the science behind the crisis, educate and inspire everyone around us.
We will need you on this journey.
