The Linnean Society of London offers a prestigious central London venue for meetings, conferences, and lectures. We can provide appropriate facilities for meetings of 10 people, conferences for 40 or lectures for audiences of 100 all at highly competitive rates.
The newly refurbished Council Room and Committee Room are both traditional in appearance with backdrops of historic paintings relevant to the Society's history. The Council Room overlooks the Royal Academy of Arts and courtyard and retains an historical feel while providing modern audio-visual facilities for larger audiences of up to 40 people. Overlooking Piccadilly the Committee Room and is ideal for smaller meetings and comfortably accommodates up to 10 people.
The Meeting Room is elegant and atmospheric and is the perfect location for conferences seating as many as 100 delegates. It is located on the ground floor, has two retractable screens and can be equipped with audio-visual equipment on request. The room houses portraits of Charles Darwin, Alfred Russel Wallace and other notable members of the Society.
The Society's impressive Library is also available in conjunction with Meeting Room hire as a location for receptions or lunches (subject to availability). The library occupies the main Piccadilly frontage and has classical pillars rising to the roof and two galleries running along the sides. Portraits include various representations of Carl Linnaeus and there are oil paintings of Sir Joseph Banks and Sir James Edward Smith, founder of the Society. Please note that hire of the Library is entirely at the discretion of the Librarian.
The Society’s prime commitment is to the biological sciences. There are currently over a hundred biological societies in the UK, many of whom use our premises on a regular basis. However other organisations have been meeting in our rooms for a number of years and when possible we will accommodate unrelated societies.
