Plants invade the land! What happened next?

Speaker: Professor Dianne Edwards CBE FRS PLS

Anniversary meeting_DE_gencontIn early Ordovician times, some 470 million years ago, carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere were high, land surfaces, if moist, were green being encrusted with microbes and algae with little or no soil. The lecture will trace subsequent events in the the evolution of terrestrial ecosystems, including animals, food webs, soils and atmosphere as higher plants began to dominate landscapes and the planet was transformed from a greenhouse to an icehouse world.

This meeting is for Fellows only.

Due to restricted space in the Royal Astronomical Society we ask Fellows to register for this event. Please click here to register.

The meeting will be followed by a wine reception at the Royal Astronomical Society.
